Environment

This article discusses the issue of converting a Windows 2000 source to a physical target with the Hyper Threading option enabled for the CPU.

Situation

When Windows 2000 is manually installed on a physical machine with HT enabled it may hang when rebooting with a blank screen and blinking underscore cursor.

When converting a source to a physical target with hyper threading, the target may hang when rebooting with a similar blank screen and blinking underscore cursor.

Resolution

The workaround is to disable HT in BIOS when using Windows 2000 and HT.
