Environment

This article discusses a potential issue when creating a PlateSpin Image using Raw Volume Data (i.e.  extracted from a Ghost Image or from any backup utility).

Situation

When creating a PlateSpin Image using Raw Volume Data (i.e. extracted from a Ghost Image or from any backup utility) with the PowerConvert Image Server, the security descriptors will not be preserved on the VM. This is due to the extracted files inheriting the permissions of their parent folder (on the PlateSpin Image Server), without having any knowledge of original source machine's permissions.  As well, all NTFS features will also not be preserved.
