Environment

Directory & Resource Administrator 8.6
Directory & Resource Administrator 8.6 SP1

Situation

Why are Assistant Admins unable to clone mail enabled distribution lists?

How do I clone a mail enabled distribution list?

Resolution

The distribution group would need to be cloned by using a DRA server with the legacy Exchange Managment Tools installed.  DRA would need to be configured to manage legacy mail objects with the newer Exchange Management Tools. The distribution group would need to migrated to the newer Exchange Server.

Cause

DRA allows assistant admins the ability to clone distribution groups. DRA also has the ability to manage the exchange features of an AD object. Unless specifically enabled, DRA does not allow users to manage legacy mail objects with newer Exchange Tools. Microsoft considers mail objects residing on older exchange servers to be legacy.

Additional Information

Formerly known as NETIQKB73263

Enabling management of legacy mail objects by DRA will allow a DRA server with newer Exchange Tools to manage older mail objects. Microsoft will update that mail object in such a way as to prevent legacy tools from managing the object in the future.
