Environment

NetIQ AppManager 7.0.x
NetIQ AppManager 8.0

Situation

Explain what MSConfig.txt is and how it is used by the NetIQ AppManager Agent.

Resolution

The NetIQ AppManager Agent includes a file called MSConfig.txt located in NetIQ\AppManager\dat.  This file contains the IP Address of the current Management Server (MS) for the agent.

The purpose of the file is to keep track of the current MS outside of the Local-Repository.  When an agent is Cold-Started (depending on type) the Management Server information may be removed from the Local-Repository.  When an agent comes online, we want to validate if it has been set for Maintenance mode by checking with the Management Server.  For this check, MSConfig.txt is used to locate the MS so the agent can validate Maintenance mode on startup.
