Environment

Security Manager 6.5.x
Reporting Install
Analysis Service
sm653reportinglog.txt
smreportinginstall.log
reportingsetup.msi

Situation

In the smreportinginstall.log, you see:
error = System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Windows NT user or group 'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORKSERVICE' not found. Check the name again.
'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORKSERVICE' is not a valid login or you do not have permission.
Security Manager Reporting install fails.

Resolution

  1. On the SQL Server where Analysis Services is running, open SQL Server Configuration Manager.
  2. Click on SQL Server Services.
  3. Right-click SQL Server Analysis Services and click Properties.
  4. Set the user on the SQL Analysis Services service to be the Security Manager service account.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Restart the service.
  7. Rerun the installer.

If the service is unable to stay this way due to security policies, you can change it back after the install has successfully completed.

Cause

The installer is picking up the user listed on the SQL Analysis Services service instead of the user running the install or the Security Manager service account.
