Situation

What are the steps to move the NetIQ Knowledge Base database to another server?
What are the steps to move the NetIQ Knowledge Base to a new server?

Resolution

  1. Backup the NetIQKB database from the current SQL server
  2. Copy the database files to the new SQL server
  3. Restore the database to the new SQL server (either the default instance or a named instance).
  4. Install the KB Server on the desired server.  This can be the server where the SQL Server is installed or another server.
    • The KB installer will ask for the database location (SQL Server instance name).  Point to the SQL server where the NetIQKB database was restored and it should recognize the database and use that database rather than creating a new one.
  5. Install the KB Console desired machines and point them to the new KB Server instance.
