Environment

  • NetIQ AppManager
  • NetIQ AppManager for UNIX
  • NetIQ UNIX Agent 7.1

Situation

What languages does the AppManager portion of the NetIQ UNIX Agent support?

Resolution

The NetIQ UNIX Agent is supported on the English language versions of UNIX.

The NetIQ UNIX Agent 7.1 works under a wide variety of agent configuration scenarios.  While using the NetIQ UNIX Agent 7.1, please keep the following in mind:

  • Decimal numbers need to be used in all threshold and counting parameters within knowledge scripts to ensure that mathematical calculations occur correctly.
  • Any performance data collected from Managed Objects needs to be in English (Example: WebSphere Application Server PerfServlet counters must be returned in English XML to be properly parsed)
  • Monitoring system log files containing non-ascii characters can be accomplished in some situations via a set of special Uni-Code aware knowledge scripts and PerlModule add-ons.  Please contact NetIQ Asian Pacific Technical support for additional information on obtaining these.

It must be kept in mind that all of the currently supported UNIX distributions ship system tools that report information back in English.  Changing or modifying system utilities that are provided with the OS into other languages may result in unexpected results and is untested.
