When Disable8dot3FileNameCreation registry key is enabled HP NNM connector installation fails. (NETIQKB72884)

Situation

Install fails for HP Network Node Manager Connector when Disabledot3FileNameCreation registry key is enabled.

Resolution

For the install to be successful either of the following changes need to be made:

  1. Disable8dot3FileNameCreation registry key needs to be disabled,
    or 
  2. Environment variables can be changed such that the install users Temp/TMP paths are set to something with no space and are 8 characters or less in length between slashes, for example:
    • Good example:
      C:\Windows\Temp
    • Bad example:
      C:\Documents and Settings\User\Temp

Making either of the changes listed above will resolve this issue.

Cause

This issue occurs if the Disable8dot3FileNameCreation registry key is enabled.
