Resolution

Why Install This Hotfix?

This hotfix resolves the following Operator Console issues:

The Action_RunKS Knowledge Script Fails to Create Jobs
This hotfix resolves an issue where the Action_RunKS Knowledge Script fails to create jobs when the Knowledge Script is configured to not use the default security credentials even if valid alternate credentials are provided. (ENG284352)

Note
The Action_RunKS Knowledge Script requires the NetIQOLE.dll file. If you want to use this Knowledge Script or any other Knowledge Script that utilizes OLE, the NetIQOLE.dll file must be registered on the agent computer where you want to run the Action_RunKS Knowledge Script. This file is already registered on computers where you have installed the Operator Console, the Web Management Server, or a reporting agent. For any other computer, you must either install one of these components or manually copy and register the NetIQOLE.dll file.

To manually register the NetIQOLE.dll file:

    1. Copy the NetIQOLE.dll file from any computer where you installed this hotfix onto the computer where you want to register it.
    2. At a command prompt type regsvr32 netiqole.dll.
    3. If you are running Microsoft Windows Server 2008 or 2008 R2, start the command prompt with the Run as administrator option.
    4. Press Enter.
       

Problems with Security Roles and the Chart Console
This hotfix resolves an issue where AppManager users who are members of more than one security role are not able to access all the views associated with these roles in the Chart console. (ENG279442)

Unable To Run NetIQ Diagnostics on Windows 2003 Computer with AppManager Agent Version 7.0.2 Installed
This hotfix resolves an issue where the NetIQdiag.exe process exits unexpectedly after clicking the Diagnose button. (ENG295288)

The Counter and CounterCorrelate Knowledge Scripts Fail When Enumerating the Counter
This hotfix resolves an issue where a "Server threw an exception" error occurs when attempting to enumerate the counters on a selected computer in the General_Counter and CounterCorrelate Knowledge Scripts when running either script on a Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2008 computer. Note

To resolve this issue on Windows Server 2008 R2 computers, you must also install Microsoft hotfix 977589 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/977589).
 

Mismatched Parent and Child Events
This hotfix resolves an issue in the Operator Console where child events appear under the wrong parent event. (ENG266203)

Developer Console Displays "The parameter is incorrect" Error When Debugging
This hotfix resolves an issue where the Developer Console displays the error "The parameter is incorrect" when attempting to open the Debug window. (ENG264019)

Size of Report Graphs Incorrect After Upgrading from AppManager 6.x to AppManager 7.x
This hotfix resolves an issue where the proportion of height to width for report graphs is incorrect after upgrading from AppManager 6.x to AppManager 7.x. This hotfix resolves this issue only if the Operator Console and the report agent are installed on the same computer. (ENG272529)

The AMAdmin_DeleteExpiredReports Knowledge Script Fails
This hotfix resolves an issue where the AMAdmin_DeleteExpiredReports Knowledge Script fails to run due to an Object not a collection error. This hotfix resolves this issue only if the Operator Console and the report agent are installed on the same computer. (ENG272517)

Certain Charts No Longer Working in AppManager 7.x
This hotfix resolves an issue where some charts built from older SQL queries using the index Data_DataID_idx do not work in AppManager 7.x. (ENG266729)

Buffer Overrun Error When Logging in to Chart Console
This hotfix resolves an issue where a buffer overrun error occurs when attempting to start the Chart Console after upgrading from AppManager 6.x to AppManager 7.x. The error is caused by the length of the AppManager repository server name as defined in the Chart Console. This hotfix resolves the issue by permitting server names longer than 29 characters. Cannot Create UNIX Jobs after Installing QDB Hotfix 71992

Charts or Data Streams with Japanese Characters Are Deleted
This hotfix resolves an issue where charts with Japanese titles or data streams labeled in Japanese are deleted when you restart the Chart Console. (ENG308820)

Unable To Place Agents in Maintenance Mode
This hotfix resolves an issue where an error occurs when attempting to put an agent into maintenance mode using the Operator Console. Instead of placing the agent in maintenance mode the Operator Console displays the following error message: "You cannot use this command to place the managed client into maintenance mode because the version of the AppManager agent is earlier than version 4.0. Use the AMAdmin_SchedMaint Knowledge Script to place the managed computer into maintenance mode. (ENG297368)

Operator Console Display Refresh Not Working
This hotfix resolves an issue where sub-objects in a new server group do not display unless you collapse and expand the server group or restart the Operator Console. (ENG292131)

Knowledge Script Job Properties Unavailable for Knowledge Script Groups
This hotfix resolves an issue where it is not possible to access the Properties dialog for jobs started by a Knowledge Script Group using the Operator Console. This error occurs when you deselect objects to monitor with the Knowledge Script Group and there is an action attached to the Knowledge Script Group. (ENG307695, ENG274911)

Custom Property Overrides Not Working for String Parameters
This hotfix resolves an issue where custom property overrides defined for string parameters in policy-based jobs are not used by the Knowledge Script job. This error occurs when no length is defined for the string parameter or the length of the custom property exceeds the length defined for the string parameter. (ENG308968)

Monitoring Policies Removed Due To Error in Operator Console Security
This hotfix resolves an issue where an Operator Console user that adds servers to a server group deletes any monitoring policies for the server group if the user does not have permissions to view the Knowledge Script Group associated with the monitoring policy. (ENG304791)

This hotfix has the following requirements:

  • AppManager for Windows Module version 7.6.276.0 installed on all Operator Console computers.
  • Hotfix 72040 installed on all AppManager repository (QDB) computers.
  • Hotfix 72041 installed on all management server computers.
  • Hotfix 72616 installed on all agent computers.
  • If you have installed the AppManager 7.x Platform Update, you do not need to install Hotfix 72040 or 72041 separately. These hotfixes are included as part of the Platform Update. For more information about the AppManager 7.x Platform Update, contact Technical Support.

The download package contains the following files, which are used by the hotfix setup program unless otherwise noted:

  • AM704_HF72840_Setup.exe, the hotfix setup program.
  • BaseInstall.dll.
  • MFC71u.dll.
  • msvcp71.dll.
  • msvcr71.dll.
  • Patch.ini.
  • AM704_ReadMe72840.htm, this readme.
  • Setup Files, a folder that contains AM704_HF72840_UISetup.msp, the Operator Console Setup program. The hotfix setup program automatically runs this file to update the Operator Console.


Installing This Hotfix

To install this hotfix:

  1. Close the Operator Console.
  2. Run AM704_HF72840_Setup.exe on all computers where the Operator Console is installed.
  3. The PATCH.log file lists all changes and problems encountered during the installation process. The Windows installer log file
  4. AM704_HF72840_UISetup.msp.log, lists only the changes associated with the hotfix installation. By default, these files are located in the \NetIQ\Temp\NetIQ_Debug folder.
