CGW won't save new filters (NETIQKB72821)

Environment

This only happens on CGW 2.0 and higher.

Situation

In the Windows NT application Event Logs, you may see warnings/errors saying that the XML Document is missing or corrupt.

When you add a filter, and tell it to save, you may get an error that it was unable to save to the xml document.

When you go back into the filters, it does not have the filter(s) you just added.

Resolution

To fix this, you will need a copy of your filters from the last backup you have of them.  This process is to be performed on one of your Central Computers that CGW was installed on.

1. Exit all consoles.

2. Open command prompt and change to the following directory: "C:\ProgramFiles\NetIQ\Change Guardian for Windows"  (This may be on a different drive or path depending on OS version and options taken at installation time.)

3. On command prompt type: ConfigurationData.exe -w DefaultConfigurationdata.xml

4. Press Enter

5. Once this is done, reopen the Control Center Console and go through the Configuration Wizard to Change Guardian for Windows and import the filters again.

Cause

The XML that is saved in the onepoint database has become corrupted, and must be overwritten with a clean xml before you can import or create new filters.
