1721 error received when upgrading GPA to version 6.2 (NETIQKB72809)

Environment

Group Policy Administrator 6.2

Situation

1721 error received when upgrading GPA to version 6.2

Resolution

After receiving this error you should check the NetIQGPASetup log. The NetIQGPASetup log is located in the %temp% path. Open the log file and scroll down to the bottom of the file and you will see the 1721 error similar to the one below.

1721 2: upgrade-Offlinelinkorder 3: C:\DOCUME~1\previous install accout\LOCALS~1\Temp\2\{ADD2AA90-241A-4CD3-964C-B7303F264E66}\WiseSql\

If you are able to log in with the previous install account, log in and run the upgrade with that account. If you receive the 1721 error and you are unable to login with the account that is specified in the NetIQGPASetup log follow the instructions below.

The Windows Installer is failing to find a Temp Folder in the C:\Documents and settings\previous install account\Temp directory.  You will need to copy the folder that GPA is looking for that is listed in the log file from the logged in users %temp% directory to the path that the Windows installer is looking for. The folder name should be similar to this {ADD2AA90-241A-4CD3-964C-B7303F264E66}.  (If the path does not exist you will need to create it)

Cancel the installation and then run the installation package again.

The Windows Installer is failing to find a Temp Folder in the c:\Documents and settings\previous install account\Temp directory
