Vigilent Security Agent for Windows 5.8.1
Situation
How do I install a Vigilent Security Agent for Widnows on a 2008 Core machine that has no Gui?
Resolution
To install the Vigilent Security Agent for Windows on a Windows 2008 Core machine you must obtain a copy of the current .msi installation files from Technical Support. Once the file is obtained it needs to be copied to the physical drive of the target machine. Then follow these directions to perform the installation.
- Logon to the 2008 Core Server and CD to the directory where the WindowsAgent.msi file has been placed.
- Then run this command which installs the windows agent and starts the service with local system: msiexec /q /i windowsagent.msi
- net stop vigilentagent
- select enter
- To change the account starting the service type : sc config vigilentagent obj= "Fully qualified username" password= "password"
- Select enter
- net start vigilentagent
- select enter
- The command window should now show the VigilentAgent service being started.
Cause
The Windows 2008 Core server does not have a standard gui interface as other Windows Servers do. This prevents a standard installation from the deployment wizard or even a custom msi install from a third party.
