Group Policy Administrator 6.2

Situation

Issues with Extensions of Microsoft Group Policy Management Editor Console

Resolution

The following issues with the Group Policy Administrator GPO Editor result from issues with the Microsoft GPO snap-ins used by the Editor:

  • If you have multiple sites in the console domain, and you configure the console to connect to a domain controller in a different site, you may see errors editing certain settings for GPOs that have not replicated from the configured DC in the same site as the console.  This behavior is noticeable on the following settings:

Computer Configuration/Policies/Windows Settings/Security Settings/Network Access Protection/NAP Client Configuration (DOC291213)

Computer Configuration/Policies/Windows Settings/Security Settings/Windows Firewall with Advanced Security (DOC291208)

Computer Configuration/Policies/Windows Settings/Security Settings/Advanced Audit Policy Configuration/Audit Policies (DOC291219)

  • If the console domain has multiple domain controllers in multiple sites,  and you configure the console to connect to a domain controller in a site that is different than the console machine?s site, you may not find AD objects in the AD browser until replication occurs between the console?s site and the preferred DC?s site.  In addition, for some settings, the AD Browser will connect to the nearest DC instead of connecting to the specific DC configured for the console.  This is noticeable on any setting where the AD Object Browser is used.  (DOC284934, DOC284918)

  • If you are editing a GPO, and you attempt to open Help from some nodes in the GPO settings tree by pressing F1 or selecting Help from the context menu, the Help window will open on a blank page.  This behavior occurs on Windows 2008 SP2 or Vista SP2.  The blank page is displayed for the settings Computer configuration/Policies/Software Settings/Software Installation and   User configuration/Policies/Windows Settings/Remote Installation Services (DOC287869)

  • When editing the GPO setting  on a computer running a non-English Microsoft operating system, some folders and properties for the User Configuration/Windows Settings/Folder Redirection   setting are displayed in English.  (DOC289503)

  • If you are using the console on Windows Vista, and you configure the Computer Configuration/Policies/Windows Settings/Security Settings/Network Access Protection/NAP Client Configuration setting, an MMC error will be displayed if you attempt to close the editor before clicking Apply .  If the error dialog is displayed, select the option  Continue running and ignore errors with this snap-in for the rest of this session  to ensure that your settings are saved.  (DOC287821)

  • When you are configuring an empty preference and you select the Disable Option from the tool bar, the editor displays an error message window.  The window may be blank.  The preference is disable properly.  (DOC289461)
