Environment
Security Manager 6.0
SQL Reporting server
Service pack
64 bit
Situation
Resolution
Create a bogus registry path so the service pack can see the reporting component installation. Also create 2 string values under the bogus "reporting" key. The string values are DatabaseServer and VersionNumber. The bogus path is:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\netiq\security manager\configurations\default\mcsapplications\operations manager\Reporting\.
To create the bogus path:
1. go to start\run\regedit
2. go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software (navigate even further if additional keys in the path already exist)
3. right click, select new key and give it the appropriate name. Continue until the bogus path is complete.
4. On the "reporting key" right click and select new string value and create the string values DatabaseServer and VersionNumber.
To get the data for the string values look under this path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Wow6432node\netiq\security manager\configurations\default\mcsapplications\operations manager\Reporting\.
Cause
The service pack patch utility is reading the wrong registry hive.
The service pack is not recognizing the 64 bit path.
Additional Information
Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious, system-wide problems that may require you to re-install Windows to correct them. Use this tool at your own risk. Before you edit the registry, you should make a backup (i.e.backup the current settings).
