Note: To view and use most VigilEnt Policy Center features, you can use a supported version of Netscape or Firefox. However, to edit Microsoft Word documents using ActiveX controls, you must access VigilEnt Policy Center through Internet Explorer. Although Firefox and other browsers that work on multiple operating systems use the Netscape Plugin Application Programming Interface (NPAPI) system, which performs functions similar to those of ActiveX, Firefox does not officially support ActiveX. For more information, see the VigilEnt Policy Center User Guide.

Support for Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 7.0
This version of VigilEnt Policy Center supports Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 7.0. For more information about configuring the IIS 7.0 Web server for VigilEnt Policy Center, see the User Guide.

Ability to Re-run Reports
VigilEnt Policy Center now offers the capability to re-run compliance reports created in VigilEnt Policy Center 5.6 without having to reconfigure them each time. This feature does not apply to reports created in VigilEnt Policy Center 5.5. To be able to re-run reports you created in VigilEnt Policy Center 5.5, you must recreate those reports in VigilEnt Policy Center 5.6. For more information, see the User Guide.

Expanded Document Reporting Capability
This version of VigilEnt Policy Center offers enhanced document reporting, allowing you to select the columns you want to include in the report. If you have created custom properties, you can also use any of those custom properties to filter the data in the report. For more information, see the User Guide.

New Custom Properties List Type
This version of VigilEnt Policy Center provides a new List custom property type that you can use to create standard entries for items such as departments in your organization. You can specify whether you want this field to be required for document authors to select from when creating policy documents. You can also specify whether the custom property is available for searching. For more information, see the User Guide.

Policy Owner/Contributor Updates
In this version of VigilEnt Policy Center, the Policy Owner field is now required. VigilEnt Policy Center references the user ID you used to log in to the Administration Site, and then automatically enters your user name in this field. If necessary, you can reassign the policy at any time to another person. VigilEnt Policy Center also includes a link to the owner's email address, so you can email a policy owner from any page of the Administration Site where the owner is listed. This version of the product also offers the ability to specify individuals (other than the document author or owner) who contributed to the content of the policy. For more information, see the User Guide.

Enhanced Administration Site Search Capability
This version of VigilEnt Policy Center offers enhanced search capabilities on the Administration Site. You can now search on the custom properties of a policy document. For more information, see the User Guide.

Upgrading from Previous Versions

You can upgrade to this version of VigilEnt Policy Center from any of the following versions:

VigilEnt Policy Center 5.5 Service Pack 2
VigilEnt Policy Center 5.5 Service Pack 2 with Hotfix 71553
VigilEnt Policy Center 5.5 Service Pack 2 with Hotfix 71569
If you have not yet upgraded to VigilEnt Policy Center 5.5 Service Pack 2, you must install Service Pack 2 before you upgrade to VigilEnt Policy Center 5.6.

This version of VigilEnt Policy Center provides several important enhancements that may affect your current installation. You should always back up your database before updating your VigilEnt Policy Center version. For installations that currently use the Microsoft SQL Server database, the update function makes many changes to the database. In the event of an installation error or if you need to roll back VigilEnt Policy Center to a previous version, you cannot undo the changes. The VigilEnt Policy Center directory contains configuration files and data files that are not stored in the database. Keep these backups available in case you need to perform an emergency restoration.
