Netiq Secure Configuration Manager 5.8

The SCM console will not launch.
The login dialogue box for SCM does not appear.
A VSOC.exe application error pops up when you try to launch the console.

Follow the listed process to reinstall the needed runtime modules that correct this issue:

  1. Download\copy the ZIP file attached to this KB
  2. Uninstall Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable and Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x86 9.0.30411
  3. Reinstall these compments using the modules attached to this KB.
  4. Launch your SCM console to verify function

If this process does not work also try the steps below.

  1. On the console machine go to Add\Remove Programs under Control Panel.
  2. Select NetIQ Secure Configuration Manager
  3. Then select Change/Remove to remove the Console.
  4. Once the uninstall is complete then close the Add/Remove console.
  5. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the %program files%NetIQ\Secure Configuration Manager\VSOC
  6. Delete the VSOC folder.
  7. Reinstall the SCM Console locally on the machine.

We install vc2005 (v6) and vc2008 (v9) with the SCM 5.8 release. If the console will not launch it means that these runtime modules did not install properly.
