Situation

Best Practices for Monitoring Health of Analysis Center Environment with AppManager

Resolution

NetIQ recommends using AppManager in order to be alerted as soon as there is a problem as well as to be proactive and avoid issues.

Analysis Center can be in a distributed environment and for this reason we assume that an AppManager Agent has been installed on all servers hosting the Analysis Center components.

Once an AppManager Agent has been installed and discovered you will want to install and discover the latest available versions of the Windows OS and SQL Server modules which are available for download here:

Windows/NT Monitoring:

The AppManager NT_ServiceDown KS should be used to monitor the following Windows services are up and running:

SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)
SQL Server Agent (MSSQLSERVER)
SQL Server Analysis Services (MSSQLSERVER)
SQL Server Integration Services
SQL Server Reporting Services (MSSQLSERVER)

The AppManager NT_LogicalDiskSpace or NT_DynamicLogicalDiskSpace can be used to monitor the disk space available where transaction log and Data files are being housed for the following databases:

SQL SERVER:

AC_Configuration
AC_Warehouse
DataMart (Name Example: DM_<AC_Servername>_<AM_Servername>_QDB)

Analysis Services:

AC_OLAP

NOTE: Separate the location to different physical drives if possible for the Transaction Log and the Database Data files.

SQL Monitoring:

The SQL_MonitorJobs KS can be used to monitor the health of the ETL and OLAP jobs.

The SQL_DBSpace KS can be used to monitor the space available and the used database space for any of the SQL databases mentioned above, except those in Analysis Services.

The SQL_LogSpace KS can be used to monitor the disk space and log space available for any of the SQL databases mentioned above, except those in Analysis Services..
