Running the Prerequisite Checker Utility on a Cluster Displays Error Message

In a cluster environment, if you try to install the GPA database on a computer running Microsoft SQL Server 2005 without the Management Tools installed, the prerequisite checker displays an error message. (ENG250596)

Installing the GPA Console on Computers with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Installed

This version does not support installing the GPA Console on a computer that has Microsoft SQL Server 2008. The GPA Console generates errors in this configuration. To work around the issue, install the GPA Console on a separate computer or install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 instead of 2008. (ENG262197)

Upgrading GPA on Microsoft SQL Server 2008

This version does not support upgrading the GPA Console or GPA Server on a computer that has Microsoft SQL Server 2008. Also, the GPA Console cannot coexist on a computer that has Microsoft SQL Server 2008. (ENG274722)

To upgrade a GPA all-in-one installation and upgrade to Microsoft SQL Server 2008:

  1. Uninstall the GPA Console.
  2. Upgrade the GP Repository and GPA Server.
  3. Upgrade from Microsoft SQL Server 2005 to Microsoft SQL Server 2008.
  4. Install the GPA Console on a different computer.

Installing the GPA Console on a Computer with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and Either Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Service Pack 1 or 2, or Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1 or 2 Generates Information Events

After installing the GPA Console on a computer with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and either Microsoft Windows Server 2008, including Service Packs 1 or 2, or Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1 or 2, when you open the Event Viewer console and expand Windows Logs > Application, some of the application events have the description, Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM'. [CLIENT: named pipe]. You can ignore these events. (ENG255755)

Installing RSAT on Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 2

You cannot install Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT) on Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 2 although RSAT is supported on Service Pack 2. To work around this issue, install RSAT on Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1, and then upgrade to Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 2. For more information about this issue, see the Microsoft Web site . (DOC270814)

Installing the GPA Console Using a Group Policy Object

If you use a GPO to deploy the GPA Console installation, ensure all prerequisites for installing the GPA Console are installed on the target computer prior to applying the GPO containing the GPA software package. If the computer does not meet the prerequisites, the GPA installation fails. (ENG252451)

Installing Additional GPA Components if You Remotely Install the GP Repository

If you remotely install the GP Repository and then run the setup program again on the local computer, the setup program displays upgrade windows rather than allowing you to add additional GPA components. This issue is caused by registry entries on the local computer for the remote database installation. (ENG263510)

To work around this issue:

  1. On the local computer, run the gpa.msi file and choose the Remove option.
  2. Run the setup program to add GPA components to the local computer.

After Upgrading GPA, RSoP Analysis and Diagnostic Reports from GPA 5.0 Service Pack 1 Do Not Correctly Display Information

If you upgrade from GPA 5.0 Service Pack 1 to GPA 6.1 and try to view the old RSoP Analysis or Diagnostic reports, the reports do not correctly display the information. To correct this issue, rerun the reports using the GPA 6.1 Console. (ENG240077, ENG240076)

After Upgrading GPA, You Are Unable to Run GPA Version 5.0 RSoP Analysis Reports

If you generate RSoP analysis reports using GPA 5.0, upgrade to GPA 6.1, and then try to run the same old RSoP analysis reports again using GPA 6.1, GPA does not generate the reports. To avoid this issue, prior to upgrading to GPA 6.1, install GPA 5.0 Service Pack 1 over GPA 5.0. (ENG253589)

After Upgrading GPA, the Policy Events Tab Does Not Display Any Information When You Rerun an Old Diagnostics Report

If you have old Diagnostics reports after upgrading from GPA 5.0 to GPA 6.1, when you rerun any of the old Diagnostics reports, the Policy Events tab of the report does not display any information. (ENG251845)

Repairing a GPA Installation Has Changed

The way to repair a GPA Installation has changed since GPA version 6.0.

  • This version allows you to repair the GPA Console or GPA Server installation by using Add/Remove programs. In previous versions, you could use the setup program to repair a GPA installation. (ENG266361)
  • This version does not support repairing the GPA database. To repair the GPA database, restore the database from backup.(ENG273168)

After You Uninstall GPA, Delete Registry Entries
