SideBySide errors when starting the NetIQ Security Manager Service

Description:
The NetIQ Security Manager service failed to start due to the following error: This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

Generate Activation Context failed for C:\Program Files\NetIQ Security Manager\OnePoint\NqSmSvc.exe. Reference error message: The manifest file contains one or more syntax errors.
The agent machine recieves the sidebyside errors in the System log when you deploy the agent from any Central Computer. If you manually install, it installs correctly.

Event Id's 34, 58, 59, 7000

Resolution

Installing the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (vcredist_<platform>.exe) will stop the above system log entries from being created, and allow the proper installation of the agent that is being deployed. 

This can be downloaded directly from Microsoft.

 

 

 

Cause

This is caused by a problem with the Visual C++ libraries either missing, incorrectly installed, or wrong version.
