Environment

Directory and Resource Administrator 8.1 SP2

Situation

MMS replication does not log which Secondary server is being updated.

MMS replication in large MMS environments is not practical or efficient.

There is no clear indication in the Application Event Log which Secondary server in a MMS is currently being updated or when it completes.

Resolution

NetIQ Directory and Resource Administrator and Exchange Administrator version 8.1 Service Pack 2 Hotfix 71493

This hotfix for the Directory and Resource Administrator product (DRA) and the Exchange Administrator product (ExA) helps to diagnose specific issues. This document outlines why you should install this hotfix and identifies files modified by the hotfix. We assume you are familiar with previous versions of this product.

Hotfix 71493 provides extra logging in event log messages during the MMS replication workflow to diagnose an issue  where users cannot perform operations on the Primary server during MMS replication in large MMS environments. (ENG257800)

Note: You need to install DRA 8.1 Service Pack 2 before installing Hotfix 71493.

Before installing the hotfix, back up the EaObjProv.dll and McsAdminMsgEnu.dll files to another location, so that you can easily restore the modified files if needed.

To install this hotfix, run the DRA8102_Hotfix71493.msi file on the primary DRA server.

Hotfix 71493 (Build Number 337) modifies the EaObjProv.dll and McsAdminMsgEnu.dll files on the primary DRA server where you installed an Administration server. By default, these files are located in the Program Files\NetIQ\DRA folder.

Solution Description:

Added the code to have event logs for the various steps involved in the MMS replication workflow. The event logs will have the step name, the step start and end time (in UTC format), and each of the server names in MMS.

Cause

DRA does not clearly indicate when the start and finish of updating a Secondary server is in the Application Event Log. This was previously by design.
