Situation

How to upgrade to version 8.1 from version 7.5 of NetIQ Security Solutions for iSeries?

Can the upgrade to version 8.0 be skipped if our system is on 7.5 and want to go to 8.1?

Resolution

To upgrade to version  8.1 from version 7.5, you must first upgrade to version 8.0.  You may not skip the upgrade to 8.0

To download the save files:

  • Go to https://www.netiq.com/support/iseries/extended/upgrades/default.asp
  • If you have not previously enrolled for a MYNetIQ account and received a password, complete the Technical Support Access Request and Contact Form: https://www.netiq.com/support/contacts.asp.    
  • Select either the NetIQ Security Solutions for iSeries 8.1 Single file download or ISO image download and follow the additional instructions.
  • After uploading the NetIQ Security Solutions for iSeries 8.1 save file to the iSeries server, issue the following command from the iSeries command line: (this presumes you took the Single File Download option)

               RNMOBJ QGPL/SVFPSI00 *FILE SVFPSI81

  • On the NetIQ Security Solutions for iSeries Upgrades web page, select either the NetIQ Security Agent for iSeries 8.0 Single file download or ISO image download and follow the additional instructions.
  • Follow the instructions in the Installation Guide and Supplemental Upgrade Instructions in NetIQ Knowledge Base article 7755921: "Are there any other considerations for upgrading to VSAi version 8.0 that are not included in the Installation Guide?" https://www.netiq.com/support/7755921 to upgrade to version 8.0. You will skip the PTFs for version 8.0 since you are upgrading immediately to version 8.1
  • After upgrading to version 8.0, issue the following commands from the iSeries command line: (this presumes you took the Single File Download option)

               RNMOBJ QGPL/SVFPSI00 *FILE SVFPSI80 
               RNMOBJ QGPL/SVFPSI81 *FILE SVFPSI00

  • Follow the instructions in the Installation Guide to upgrade to NetIQ Security Solutions for iSeries v8.1. The Installation and User Guide files are located by default in C:\Program Files\NSSi81Setup\documentation.
