Situation

Attempt to register iSeries in SCM fails with Signal 5 error

Resetagent command fails with Signal 5 error.

Resolution

NetIQ products rely to some extent on PASE (Portable Application Solutions Environment) for some PTFs and functionality.  PASE is a no-charge component included on the IBM installation CDs.

Run the following to determine whether PASE is installed:

 CALL QP2TERM

 - If PASE is installed, you should see a command screen with "/QOpenSys/usr/bin/-sh" at the top.
 - Hit F3 or F12 to exit.

 PASE is product 5722SS1 option 33 and Qshell is 5722SS1 option 30

QShell is also an optional no-charge component of i5/OS included on the installation CDs from IBM. NetIQ relies on the QSHELL command-line interpreter for some configuration and PTF functions.

Run the following to determine whether QSHELL is installed:

 QSH

 - If QSHELL is installed, you should see a command screen with "QSH Command Entry" at the top.
 - Hit F3 or F12 to exit.

Cause

IBM PASE product was not installed.
