Can SPA be configured to use a SQL 2008 database?

Resolution

Secure Password Administrator (SPA) 1.0 cannot install directly onto a SQL 2005 or 2008 database, but there is a workaround to both install and configure SPA with SQL 2005 or SQL 2008.  While this configuration has not been completely regression tested, it has proven to work in a number of customer environments.

SPA is supported on:

  • MSDE 2000 (MSDE 2000 SP3 is provided with Secure Password Administrator)
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (up to SQL 2000 SP4) Enterprise or Standard Edition running in mixed authentication mode
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (with additional configuration for install or if the database is moved to SQL 2005).
