Environment

NetIQ Security Solutions for iSeries 8.0

PSSecure

Inactive Session Monitor (ISM)

O/S Release V5R4

Situation

Job ASO consumes lots of CPU resources and degrades system performance.

Joblog for ASO job is filled with messages for CPF4028 "Open of member ASPF04 was changed to SEQONLY(*NO)".

Resolution

To address this issue, configure ISM to only monitor interactive subsystems and change the 'ISM Check gap' to 300 seconds.

To change the ISM configuration, use PSMENU, options 2, 5, and 6. Press F7 (=Subsystems), blank out the *ALL entry, and in the next lines enter your interactive subsystems, press Enter, then F12, then Enter. We also suggest changing the 'ISM Check gap' to 300 seconds (5 minutes) as opposed to 180 seconds.

Additionally, it may help to change the ISM job descriptions to specify no logging. To change the job descriptions, press F10 from the ISM menu, type CALL ASDEBUG PARM(N), press Enter, then F12.

Cause

For V5R4 compatibility, the ASO program was changed to use the Retrieve Job Information (QUSRJOBI) API for format JOBI0200 and therefore runs slower.
