Situation

Discovery_VirtualCenter fails: Login to VirtualCenter failed Login (cannot open database message)
Login to VirtualCenter failed
Login : ERROR [42000] [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot open database requested in login 'VirtualCenterConsole20'. Login fails.

Resolution

Change the netiqmc account to run as a domain account and re-run discovery.

Cause

This happens when running the netiqmc service as LocalSystem. The LocalSystem account does not have access to the Virtual Center database specified in the Virtual Center ODBC DSN on the Virtual Center server. The account specified in the Discovery KS is used to access the web service for most of the information, however the netiqmc account is also used to connect to the actual Virtual Center database as well.
