How does Secure Password Administrator calculate the number of Password Resets for the Cost Savings Report?

How does Secure Password Administrator calculate the number of Account Unlocks for the Cost Savings Report?

Resolution

One of the features of Secure Password Administrator (SPA) is the Cost Savings Report.  It reports the number of Password Resets and Account Unlocks that were performed with the product.

If a user forgets their password and uses the SPA Self-Service site to answer the identity questions and then resets their password, SPA will count this as a Password Reset for the Cost Savings Report, because this "saved a call" to the help desk and the user was able to reset the password.

If a user has not forgotten their password and uses the SPA Self-Service site to change it without needing do answer the identity questions, SPA will not count this as a Password Reset for the purpose of the Cost Savings Report, because the user could have used native tools to change the password from a known password.  SPA will still record this as a password reset in the application log file and generate an email notification if it is configured to do so.

If a user account is locked out and uses the SPA Self-Service site to answer the identity questions and unlock their account, SPA will count this as an Account Unlock for the Cost Savings Report.
