Resolution

fact
Directory and Resource Administrator 7.x

fact
Directory and Resource Administrator 8.0

symptom
Cannot enable the Recycle Bin for my external Forest Root Domain.

symptom
The 'Enable recycle bin for this domain option is unchecked and grayed out on my managed external Forest Root Domain's properties screen.

symptom
In Directory and Resource Administrator, I cannot use the Recycle Bin.

cause

The Access Override account that has been specified to manage the domain is experiencing one or both of the following:

  • The Access Override Account is 'Locked Out.'
  • The Access Override Account is not a member of the Account Operators Group within the subject domain.

If either condition is true when the subject domain is added to the Managed Domains pool, the user will be unable to use the Recycle Bin.

fix

To enable the Recycle Bin in this scenario, first verify that the Override Account is not 'Locked Out' and is a member of the domain's Account Operators Group and then perform the following steps.

To enable the Recycle Bin:

  1. Start the Directory and Resource Administrator Delegation and Configuration Console.
  2. Expand the Configuration Management node.
  3. Select Managed Domains.
  4. Select the subject domain in the results pane.
  5. On the Tasks menu, click Remove.
  6. Select Managed Domains again.
  7. On the Tasks menu, click New Managed Domain and follow the steps in the wizard. Make sure you specify the Access Override account experiencing the problem.
  8. Right-click the subject domain and select Properties.
  9. Click the Recycle Bin tab.
  10. Select Enable the recycle bin for this domain.
  11. Click OK.
