Situation

How do I monitor communication failiures between NetIQ Management Servers and Agents?

Resolution

You can monitor the health of the communication between your Management Server and your managed client by using the AMAdmin_AgentHealth Knowledge Script. In the Application Eventlog of a Managed Server the Managed Client and Client Communication Manager services generate events of several types (general, communication, job, security, and upgrade). You can use the AMAdmin_AgentHealth to filter for different variations of these events.

Whenever a particular Managed Client is unable to communicate with its designated Management Server it will generate a NetIQccm Communication entry in the Windows Application log...to monitor only these entries you can use the ADAmin_AgentHealth knowledge script with the "Monitor Communication Events" option enabled and you will be notified anytime you Managed Clients have difficultly communicating with your Management Server.

NetIQccm entries in the eventlog are generated everytime there is a communication issue between the Managed Client and the Management Server.
