symptom
Physical disk is not discovered.
symptom
Cannot find some physical disk devices.
symptom
Some physical disks are not listed, but others are.
cause
Make the PV Name value available for the physical disk. For more information about how to make the value available, contact your physical disk manufacturer.
fix
To be discovered, a physical disk device must report PV Name values in the output of the executed command of vgdisplay -v
. In addition, the PV Name value must appear in the output from the executed command of df -k
. The output of df -k
is compared with the lines returned by /usr/sbin/vgdisplay -v
.
The Discovery_Unix KS attempts to match this regular expression against the vgdisplay -v
output: /^\s*PV Name\s+\/dev\/dsk\/(\S+)/
If the physical disk device does not return the PV Name value from both executed commands, the physical disk cannot be properly discovered or monitored.
note
Some logical volume groups will return some information to vgdisplay -v, but not physical disk information. A device which returns only VG lines will not be discovered.
