Resolution

fact
NetIQ Group Policy Administrator 5.0

symptom
Error: "Cannot connect to domain" when running offline mirror script.

symptom
Cannot run the GPA offline mirror.

symptom
The Runofflinemirror computername.domainname.local . command does not work as expected.

cause

In the Trial Guide for NetIQ Group Policy Administrator, the procedure to run the GPA offline mirror provides incorrect command syntax.   Step 3 of the To import all the GPOs from a selected domain into the GP Repository procedure, on pages 31 and 32, contains the following syntax:

Runofflinemirror computername.domainname.local .

Where computername and domainname are the actual computer and domain names and the final dot (.) indicates the local Microsoft SQL Server instance.

fix

When running the To import all the GPOs from a selected domain into the GP Repository procedure in the Trial Guide for NetIQ Group Policy Administrator, substitute the following command syntax for the incorrect syntax in the book:

Runofflinemirror MyDomain.devMySQLServer

Where MyDomain.dev is the DNS name of the domain and MySQLServer is the name of the repository server where the GP Repository is installed.

Note:   If the repository server you specify in MySQLServer is the local Microsoft SQL Server instance, you can substitute a dot (.) for MySQLServer.

Chapter 3, page 79, of the User Guide for NetIQ Group Policy Administrator User Guide  also provides the command to run the GPA offline mirror. In this book, the command syntax is correct.

note
A request to correct this in the documentation in a future version of Group Policy Administrator exists.
