Resolution

fact
NetIQ Vulnerability Manager 5.5

symptom
Policy templates do not retain their parameters after another template is imported.

symptom
Version numbers of previously imported templates change randomly after I import another template.

symptom
Error: 'Cannot insert duplicate key row in object T_security_checkups'

cause
This problem occurs when two imported policy templates contain at least one check that is already included in an existing policy template.  The error message above displays when you try to import the template with the duplicate check.

fix

To remove the duplicate check:

  1. Make sure you have saved or exported copies of the templates to your hard drive.
  2. Delete both templates from Vulnerability Manager.
  3. Open one of the templates in Notepad or another text editor.
  4. Search for the <CHECKDEFINITIONS> tag and mark its location in the file.
  5. Find the corresponding </CHECKDEFINITIONS> tag and delete everything between the two tags.  This removes the <CHECKDEFINITION> node from the template.
  6. Import the unedited template into Vulnerability Manager.
  7. Import the template edited in Step 3.

note
Be aware that this error may also occur in more than two templates.  In that case, we advise that you examine all of the templates in question to determine which include the duplicate checks.
