Situation

Discovery_UNIX Knowledge Script fails.

Cannot discover UNIX agent.

Error: 'Failed to acquire Perl engine: Couldn't parse perl initialization script.'

Perl Engine is missing or cannot be initialized.

Resolution

Install the missing packages on the AIX machine to be monitored. The installation media includes these packages for AIX 5.2 and 5.3.

Cause

When you install AIX 5.2 or 5.3 using the default package selections, the following packages do not get fully installed:

perfagent.tools bos.perf bos.perf.diag_tool bos.perf.proctools bos.perf.tools bos.perf.tune

The packages contain shared library, libSpmi.a, required by AppManager.
