Situation

Knowledge Base 2.0 installation fails.
Error: 'Cannot update configuration file, web.cfg.'
Error: 'Invalid user.i username constraint is badly formed.'
Error: 'Cannot connect to SQL Server xxxxx login failed for user.'

Resolution

To avoid the problem:

  1. Use NT Authentication to connect to the SQL Server.
  2. If SQL Authentication is required, create another SQL Account (within SQL) that has an alpha-numeric password 

Cause

The installation account has a password with special characters. Special characters are not supported if the installation account uses SQL authentication to communicate with the target SQL Server.
