symptom
Unable to register a Unix agent with Security Manager

symptom
Error 31068: Log Manager: Failed to register agent: 'Failed to register agent on computer Unix agent because it is registered by another Security Manager.'

symptom
Unable to add a Unix agent to be monitored by Log Manager

symptom
Cannot use Log Manager to collect logs from one Unix agent for multiple configuration groups

cause
The SSL keys are incorrect or already exist when trying to register a Unix agent with Log Manager.

fix

Log Manager cannot monitor a Unix agent if it is being monitored by another central computer or configuration group. Choose one central computer for Log Manager to use to monitor the Unix agent, and then re-register the Unix agent with that central computer.

To re-register the Unix agent:

  1. Unregister the Unix agent by completing one of the following tasks on each central computer that you configured to collect logs from the Unix agent:

    • To remove the Unix agent registration for Security Manager version 5.0 or 5.1, remove the Unix agent from the Deployment Wizard in the Monitor Console. For more information about starting the Deployment Wizard, see the Installation Guide for Security Manager.
    • To remove Unix agent registration for Security Manager version 5.5, remove the Unix agent from the Configuration Wizard in the Monitor Console. For more information about starting the Configuration Wizard, see the Installation Guide for Security Manager.

  2. If the original central computer you configured to collect logs from the Unix agent is unavailable, manually remove the registration keys by completing the following steps:

    a. On the Unix agent, change directories to the following agent installation directory:

    $INSTALL_DIR/$OS/vsau/local/cache

    b. Remove the two SSL keys by entering the following at the command prompt:

    # rm secretkey826
    # rm secret826

  3. Register the Unix agent with the central computer you want to collect logs from the Unix agent by completing one of the following tasks:

    • To register the Unix agent for Security Manager version 5.0 or 5.1, add the Unix agent to the Deployment Wizard in the Monitor Console. For more information about starting the Deployment Wizard, see the Installation Guide for Security Manager.
    • To register the Unix agent for Security Manager version 5.5, add the Unix agent to the Configuration Wizard in the Monitor Console. For more information about starting the Configuration Wizard, see the Installation Guide for Security Manager.
