Environment

NetIQ AppManager 6.x

Situation

Getting reports of discovery successful and failure on the same event.

Discovery jobs fail with no error message.

Error: 'Discovery: failed to fill out ndNewObj table (due to ill-formed XML discovery result, or ODBC error).'

Error: '[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]CreatendNewObj_debugTable: Please truncate or drop table dbo.ndNewObj_debug.'

Resolution

To remove the corrupted data from the table:

  1. Truncate, drop, or delete all records from the table specified in the rplib.log.
  2. If the NQ_DEBUG environment variable is defined, remove that variable and restart the Management Server service.
  3. Run the discovery again.

Cause

The ndNewObj or ndNewObj_debug table in the repository contains corrupted data. The ndNewObj_debug table is created when an environment variable called NQ_DEBUG is defined on the managed server. When you enable the DEBUG option, AppManager writes discovery troubleshooting information to this table. To prevent excessive growth of the repository during the troubleshooting process, discovery fails if you try to do a discovery when the table is populated.
