Resolution

fact
AppManager for UNIX 6.5

fact
Sun Solaris 8

fact
Sun Solaris 9

symptom
Agent does not start on Solaris.

symptom
I cannot properly install and run the agent on SunOS 8 or 9.

symptom
When the AppManager for Unix Agent attempts to start, it receives fatal errors trying to open the shared C runtime library libCstd.so.1.

cause

The following Solaris patches are not installed on the Solaris server:

  • For Solaris 8 (SunOS 5.8):  109147-37 and 108434-18.
  • For Solaris 9 (SunOS 5.9): 111711-12

The AppManager for Unix 6.5 Agent installation program checks for the required patches for Solaris 8 and Solaris 9. If the patches do not exist, the installation requests permission to install them. The required patches are installed as removable. For users that install using the silent configuration option of the Unix Agent install process a new parameter exists and must be added to the configuration file: INSTALL_PATCHES=  set to y for yes and n for no.

The Unix Agent requires the patches. If the patches do not exist, the agent receives fatal errors trying to open libCstd.so.1. Once the patches are applied the fatal error does not occur.

fix
Install the required operating system patches.
