Resolution

fact
Directory and Resource Administrator 7.5

symptom
I get an error when I try to launch the DRA Web Console.

symptom
Error: 'Could not detect a DRA server that is managing <DomainName>'

symptom
The Web Console cannot find the DRA server managing the domain.

symptom
Unable to connect to Web Console by typing 'http://DRAServer/DRA' in a browser.

symptom

Error: 'VBScript: Initialization error
The Following error occurred during Web Console initialization:
The attempt to automatically connect to domain <DomainName> Failed:
Could not detect a DRA server that is managing <DomainName>.

Common issues that can cause this error include:
The DRA server is not connected to the network.
The Web Console cannot Find the DRA server managing your domain.
The connection between the Web Console server and DRA server has been interrupted.
Click Retry to try again, otherwise click Cancel to change your domain and DRA server settings. IF this problem persists, contact your administrator.'

change
SP1 for Windows 2003 has been applied to the domain controllers.

cause
DRA agents are either not installed on domain controllers or can no longer be contacted.

fix

If the workaround specified in the initial error message is unsuccessful, deploy the Directory and Resource Administrator agents.  If you choose not to deploy agents in your environment, enter the following URL to connect directly to the Directory and Resource Administrator server without querying agents:

http://DRAWebServer/dra/Scripts/FocusDomain.asp?direct_conn=1&dra_machine=draserver&FocusDomain=Domainname

For this workaround, replace DRAWebServer in the example URL above with the name of the IIS server hosting the DRA website (typically the DRA server itself), replace dra_machine with the name of your DRA Administration server, and replace Domainname with the name of your domain.

The DRA Web Console saves the connection information in a browser cookie. After you specify the DRA server for the first time in a browser, you should not see the error message again.

note

If you have applied SP1 for Windows 2003 on your DRA server or on any of your domain controllers, see NetIQ Knowledge Base article NETIQKB47150 for information on installing Hotfix 47150: 'Directory and Resource Administrator (DRA) 7.5 clients cannot connect to the Administration server.' https://www.netiq.com/kb/esupport/consumer/esupport.asp?id=NETIQKB47150

note

There is a DRA command line utility called eaagentutil.exe that can be used to check the status of agents or to manually install or uninstall agents. For more information, see NetIQ Knowledge Base article NETIQKB322: 'Is there a utility for troubleshooting the Directory and Resource Administrator agent service?' https://www.netiq.com/kb/esupport/consumer/esupport.asp?id=NETIQKB322

note
An enhancement request has been opened with Development to consider changing this behavior in a future release of Directory and Resource Administrator.
