Goal

How can I configure DRA so that Assistant Admins do not have to specify an Administration server when they use the Web Console?

Is there a way to configure the Web Console to always connect to a specific Administration server when I don't have the NetIQ DRA Agent deployed?

How can I ensure Assistant Admins at a specific site only connect to the specific Administration server for their site?

Can I create Internet Explorer shortcut links to the Web Console so Assistant Admins do not have to specify a domain to connect to when using the Web Console?

How do I save the Web Console settings and disburse them to Assistant Admins?

How do I create a desktop shortcut for the Web Console?

Fix

You can create an Internet Explorer shortcut link to a specific Administration server and distribute this link to Assistanct Admins to use. Using an Internet Explorer shortcut link to connect to a specific Administration server can be helpful in the following scenarios:

  • You have not deployed DRA agents in your environment. As a result, Assistant Admins must specify a domain each time they use the Web Console.
  • You want your Assistant Admins to connect to a specific domain, but you do not want them to have to specify it each time they use the Web Console.
  • You want to ensure Assistant Admins at a specific site only connect to the specific Administration server for their site.

To create an Internet Explorer shortcut link to a specific Administration server:

  1. Log on to a computer with a user account that is a member of the DRA Admins Assistant Admin group.
  2. Start the Web Console from the Directory and Resource Administrator program group or from the File menu in the Account and Resource Management console or in the Delegation and Configuration console.
  3. Connect to the specific Administration server for which you want to create an Internet Explorer shortcut link.
  4. In the Address field in the Internet Explorer window, click the Internet Explorer icon and then drag and drop the icon to the desktop.
  5. Distribute the Internet Explorer shortcut link to the appropriate Assistant Admins. Your link will be similar to the one below.

http://DRAWEBSERVER/dra/Scripts/FocusDomain.asp?direct_conn=1&dra_machine=DRASERVER&FocusDomain=DOMAINNAME

Where:

  • DRAWEBSERVER is the name of the server on which you installed the Web Component installed (usually the Administration server)
  • DRASERVER is the name of the Administration server
  • DOMAINNAME is the name of your domain

You do not need to perform any additional configuration steps before authenticated Assistant Admins can properly use the Internet Explorer shortcut link to connect to a specific Administration server. When Assistant Admins use the Internet Explorer shortcut link you provide to connect to a specific Administration server, Assistant Admins will only be able to view and manage the objects for which they have permissions.
