Resolution

fact
Exchange Migrator 2.x

symptom
EMCLI DIRSYNC is adding members to the target Distribution List (DL) that were previously removed from the source DL.

symptom
My target DL includes members not found in the source DL.

cause

This can occur when all of the following conditions are true:

  • You are using EMCLI DIRSYNC /MERGEMETHOD samAccountName
  • The Primary NT User Account of the source mailbox has multiple associated source mailboxes
  • One of those mailboxes is still a member of the source DL

fix

There are two possible solutions to this problem:

  1. Remove the additional mailboxes from the source and target distribution list (DL), and then rerun your original EMCLI DIRSYNC command using the /CLEARTABLES switch.
  2. Because Exchange Migrator may create duplicate objects for accounts that have no SMTP addresses, such as internal DLs, delete the previously created DL members on the target, and then rerun the EMCLI DIRSYNC command using the /CLEARTABLES switch and a different MERGEMETHOD (SIDHistory or NONE).

fix

For more information about EMCLI DIRSYNC command syntax, see the following NetIQ KB article:
