How do I upgrade an automatically deployed Security Manager 5.1 agent to SP 1 when the console user interfaces are installed on the same machine?

symptom
Event 31203 reported when trying to install SP 1 for Security Manager 5.1.

symptom
Agent does not show up under Pending Agents > Installation after I apply SP 1 for SM 5.1 to my central computer and perform a managed computer scan.

cause

The Security Manager console on the agent machine is older than the version currently installed on the central computer.



fix

Before you can upgrade an agent on a machine that has a Security Manager console installed, you must first upgrade the console.

To upgrade the consoles and then the agent:

  1. Run SM51000_SP1.exe from an agent machine that has a console installed. 
  2. Complete the steps in the installation wizard to upgrade the console.
  3. Perform a Managed Computer Scan on the central computer. Verify the agent machine is listed in the Pending Agents > Installation folder in the Monitor console.
  4. Right-click the agent.
  5. Click Approve.
  6. Right-click the Installation folder.
  7. Click Install All Approved Agents Now to push out the updates for the agent. 

 To verify the version of the agent, click Infrastructure Components > Agents and scroll over to the version column.
