Unable to connect to the Group Policy Guardian (GPG) reporting component when running SQL Server on a non-standard port.

cause
Specify a non-standard port in Microsoft SQL Server

fix

If a non-standard port is specified on the SQL Server, you must also configure this port on the SQL Server Client Network Utility. Configuring a port on the SQL Server Client Network Utility requires you to perform several related tasks in a particular sequence. The following list provides an overview of the correct sequence. Specific instructions to configure the SQL Server Client Network Utililty follow the overview steps.

  1. Close any open GPG Consoles or GPG reports.
  2. Stop the NetIQ GPG Host Service and GPG Control Service.
  3. Use TaskManager to stop the EventAudit.exe application.
  4. Configure the non-standard port on the SQL Server Client Network Utility.
  5. Stop and restart the World Wide Web Publishing Service.
  6. Start the NetIQ GPG Host Service and GPG Control Service.

To configure a port on the SQL Server Client Network Utility:

  1. Start the Client Network Utility in the Microsoft SQL Server program folder.
  2. Select TCP/IP in the list of enabled protocols.
  3. Click Properties.
  4. In the Default port field, type the same port number that is configured on the SQL Server.
  5. Click OK.
