Resolution

goal
After stopping the Unix agent, why does the VigilEntAgent process keep running?

goal
How are the uvserv and VigilEntAgent processes related?

goal
What is the VigilEntAgent process used for?

fact
VigilEnt Security Agent for Unix 5.0

fix

The VigilEntAgent process is used by newer security checks and custom security checks written using the Custom Check Wizard inside Vulnerability Manager.  This process is not shut down automatically when the uagent or uvserv processes are shut down, but can be shut down manually.  The uvserv process starts the VigilEntAgent process automatically when needed. For example, when the need for a custom or newer version security check arises by demand or schedule, uvserv then launches VigilEntAgent.  The VigilEntAgent process continues to run until it is manually stopped or the system is rebooted.

A product enhancement request has been entered to have the VigilEntAgent process automatically stopped.

To  manually stop or start VigilEntAgent, run the stopca and startca scripts, which are located in the  ./vsaunix/OperatingSystem/vsau/bin directory.
