Resolution

goal
How do I create an email contact for a name that includes special or German characters, such as ä, ö, or ü?

goal
How do I create LegacyExchangeDN path values for contact names that include special or German characters, such as ä, ö, or ü?

goal
Why is the email tab blank?

fact
Directory and Resource Administrator 7.0 SP1

fact
Directory and Resource Administrator 7.5

symptom
German characters, such as ä, ö, or ü, cause the email tab appear blank when using Native tools to view the properties of a contact.

cause
Directory and Resource Administrator creates the LegacyExchangeDN with special characters.

cause
Native tools usually creates the LegacyExchangeDN path based on the properties of the contact.  If there is a special character, then native tools generates a LegacyExchangeDN using a random name assignment.  DRA continues to use the property of the user object to set the LegacyExchangeDN which, in this case, contains a special character.

fix

Tentatively, this problem is scheduled to be fixed in the next release of Directory and Resource Administrator (DRA).

For example, native tools will create a LegacyExchangeDN for Jöhn Smith as:

LegacyExchangeDN: /o=First Organization/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Recipients/cn=contact74263637

Workaround:

  1. Obtain a script from NetIQ Corporation that enables you to search for special characters.
  2. Use the script to search for special characters.
  3. If you find a special character, generate the LegacyExchangeDN using a randomly assigned name (the way native tools assigns a LegacyExchangeDN value).
