The Account and Resource Management console cannot connect to the Administration server.

symptom
Error: 'Unable to connect to Administrator server 'Servername.' This error occurs if your account cannot be authenticated by the domain in which the Administration server is running or if the server is not running at all.'

symptom

The Account and Resource Management console displays the following error message: 'Unable to connect to Administrator server 'Servername.' This error occurs if your account cannot be authenticated by the domain in which the Administration server is running or if the server is not running at all.'



cause

The Account and Resource Management console may display this error message if the Distributed COM setting is not enabled on the client computer. This setting must be enabled for the client to make a DCOM call to the Administration server.



fix

Ensure the Distributed COM setting is enabled on the client computer. To enable the Distributed COM setting:

  1. On the Start menu, click Run.
  2. Type dcomcnfg and click OK.
  3. If the client computer is running Windows XP or Windows 2003, complete the following steps:
    1. Expand Component Services > Computers.
    2. Right-click My Computer and then click Properties.
  4. In the Distributed COM Configuration Properties window, click the Default Properties tab and verify the Enable Distributed COM on this computer check box is selected.
  5. If the Account and Resource Management console is running, stop and then restart the console.
