Environment

NetIQ AppManager 6.x
NetIQ Appmanager 7.0.x

Situation

Not able to run reports
Knowledge Script specific reports do not show up in KS categories
ReportAM category is not shown

Resolution

This behavior is by design. If you have enabled some agents for reporting, you can drop the reporting job on the report enabled agent and then specify each machine that you would like to report on in the Select computer(s) value of the KS properties.

Alternatively, you can enable reporting on the existing agent on the desired client machine. To enable reporting on an existing agent you will need to reinstall the agent using the following process:

Adding reporting capability to an existing agent

  1. Run the AppManager Setup program.
  2. When you are prompted to select which components you want to install, select only AppManager management agent, then click Next.
  3. Select Replace the agent services, local repository, and managed object, then click Next.
  4. You need to reinstall any existing managed objects. Select the managed objects you want to install, then click Next.
  5. Select any ResponseTime modules you want to install, then click Next.
  6. Select Enable reporting capability, then click Next.
  7. Specify the path for the local repository, then click Next.
  8. Identify a Windows account for the agent service. This account must be mapped to a SQL Server account that has access to the AppManager repository, and sufficient permissions to write to the Report folder. Click Next.
  9. Select the level of security you want to use for communication between the agent and the management server, then click Next.
  10. Select whether to specify the name of the management server with which this agent communicates, then click Next.

Setup finishes installation of the additional agent software.

After you install a new report agent, or upgrade an existing AppManager agent with reporting capabilities, you must discover the report agent to be able to run Report Scripts. Until you perform discovery of the report agent, none of the associated resource objects or scripts are displayed in the Operator Console.

To discover the report agent:

  1. Start the AppManager Operator Console.
  2. Click the Master view tab.
  3. Click the Discovery tab in the Knowledge Script pane.
  4. Drag the ReportAgent icon from the Knowledge Script pane and drop it on each computer where you installed a report agent.
    • Note If the computers on which you.ve installed report agents are not visible in the TreeView, you must add those computers to the Master view. See the User Guide for information about adding computers. The default schedule of Run once is sufficient.
  5. Click the Values tab, and set the necessary parameters.
    • By default, the Discover AppManager Repository? parameter is set to y. You need to discover only the AppManager repository in order to generate reports from AppManager data.
Note You can also choose to discover Analysis Center and Active Directory. See the Analysis Center User Guide for information about using Analysis Center, NetIQ's OLAP reporting solution. Discovering a data source adds the appropriate Report Scripts to the Knowledge Scripts pane.
  6. Click OK.

Discovery of the report agent adds the following elements to the AppManager Operator Console:

  1. Report view
  2. Report Agent resource object in the TreeView pane (the Report Agent resource object is visible under each computer on which it is discovered)
  3. AM Repositories resource object under each Report Agent
  4. Specific AppManager repositories under each AM Repositories object>Discovered applications for each AppManager repository
  5. Report Script category tabs in the Knowledge Script pane
  6. Application-specific Report Scripts to the appropriate Knowledge
  7. Script category (for example, SQL-specific reports are added to the SQL category, and are also displayed in the SQL tab of the Report view)

Cause

The agent that you are attempting to run the report on has not been enabled for reporting.
