Error: 'Could not determine if a virtual directory already exists on the local computer...' (NETIQKB46992)

Environment

NetIQ AppManager 6.x
NetIQ AppManager 7.0.x
NetIQ Knowledge Base 1.0

Situation

Error: 'Could not determine if a virtual directory already exists on the local computer with the name 'NetIQKB'. Please make sure the virtual directory name is unique.'

Installation of the NetIQ Knowledge Base fails with an error.

Resolution

You may need to reinstall IIS and then reinstall the NetIQ KB product to have the proper virtual directory created. If you still encounter this error, contact NetIQ Technical Support and refer to this article. In addition, please provide the following log files created in the logged-on user's temp directory, if available:

  • SetupDbTrace.log
  • KBToolTrace.log
  • KBServerTrace.log

Cause

A corruption of IIS internal configuration data has occurred. This corruption is not caused by the NetIQ Knowledge Base installer, but prevents the installer from completing successfully.
