Environment

NetIQ Analysis Center 2.x

Situation

Installation fails.

Installing Analysis Center 2.0 on an existing Data Warehouse server generated the following error:

Error encountered while stopping Analysis Center jobs. Error: 18456 SQL Error 18456; Login failed for user 'sa'. Would you like Setup to retry closing all Analysis Center jobs and connections? Click Yes to retry or click No to exit Setup. (If this continues to fail, please try to stop the OLAP Processing job run by the Data Warehouse SQL Server Agent manually before clicking Yes to retry.)

Resolution

To correct the Authentication used by the AC installer, manually correct the registry key on your AC Data Warehouse server and restart the installation process.

  1. On the Analysis Center Data Warehouse server, open regedit and browse to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > NetIQ > AnalysisCenter > 2.0 > WebService
  2. Change DataWarehouseWindowsAuth to be true.
  3. Install the Analysis Center Data Warehouse.

Cause

A previous installation of the Analysis Center Data Warehouse used a different type of authentication. When performing a new Analysis Center (AC) installation, the registry key is set to "false" when using SQL authentication to create the Analysis Center Data Warehouse. If you are performing an AC upgrade or reinstallation of your AC Data Warehouse and select "Windows Authentication", AC will not update the appropriate key for using only Windows authentication.  AC continues to use the stored SQL account.
