Environment
NetIQ AppManager 6.x
NetIQ AppManager 7.0.x
NetIQ AppManager for SNMP
NetIQ AppManager 7.0.x
NetIQ AppManager for SNMP
Situation
SNMP Discovery takes minutes or even hours to complete.
Resolution
Please review the following resolution stepsL
- If community strings are not correct, every attempt to contact an SNMP device will result in a timeout; causing the job to execute for a long time and the end result being no or few devices discovered.
- Limit use of IP Address Ranges. Each address that is not assigned to an SNMP Device will result in an SNMP Timeout.
- Reducing the SNMP Timeout and Retries parameters to values suitable for the local network environment can substantially speed up discovery if timeouts are occurring. However, the values should not be reduced to a level where normal network congestion does not give the SNMP requests enough time to complete. Fine-tuning of the Timeout/Retries values may be needed to achieve the best balance between discovery execution time and missing devices that are too slow to respond.
Cause
Possible Causes:
- Community Strings being used are not correct.
- IP Address Ranges are being used.
- The SNMP Timeout and Retries parameters are too large.
