Environment

NetIQ AppManager 6.x
NetIQ AppManager 7.0.x
SNMP Toolkit for Windows

Situation

Event: 'SNMP Failure contacting has occurred.'

Resolution

Please see possible fixes below:

  1. Check correct spelling of SNMP ODEs. Ensure that the necessary MIB(s) for the ODE are installed in the SNMP Proxy Agent. MIB(s) can be installed using the AddMIBs script.
  2. Update the Discovery script for the SNMP Proxy Agent and execute with the correct hostname.
  3. Contact NetIQ support. Provide the exact script parameter settings used, an mctrace.log file from execution of the job with SNMP Tracing turned on, and an SNMP Walk of the associated SNMP Device.

Cause

If the event detailed message says the SNMP ODE/OID is invalid, then the ODE/OID may be misspelled or the appropriate MIB for the ODE may not be installed.  The hostname is invalid.  Other Failure Errors may indicate an internal error inside the module.  This issue could also arise from SNMP errors or corrupted MIBs.
