NetIQ AppManager 6.x
NetIQ AppManager 7.0.x
SNMP Toolkit

Event: 'SNMP Response Error from has occurred.'

To resolve this issue, please perform the following:

  1. Ensure that the community string being used by the job is correct. Configuration of community strings is documented in the Working Smarter Guide PDF (Monitoring SNMP with AppManager) packaged with the module.
  2. Attempt to access the SNMP Device with a 3rd party MIB Browser. The NET-SNMP tkmib Browser is supplied free of charge with this toolkit, but is not supported by NetIQ. See the NET-SNMP.TXT file packaged with the module for installation instructions.

Turn on SNMP Tracing by editing the script. The procedure for doing this is documented in the SNMP Working Smarter Guide PDF supplied with the release. All SNMP traffic between the Proxy Agent and SNMP Device will be recorded in AppManager's mctrace.log file. If this information is insufficient to diagnose the problem locally, contact NetIQ support. Provide the exact script parameter settings used, the mctrace.log file and an SNMP Walk of the associated SNMP Device.

This problem may occur during the execution of any SNMP Knowledge Scripts except Discovery, AddMIBs or RemoveMIBs if:

  • Some SNMP Devices return an SNMP Response Error if the community string is incorrect.
  • The SNMP Values being requested are missing or invalid.
